Madame Web is one of Marvel's most hotly-anticipated movies – and a brand new trailer dropping today has just added to our excitement.

Starring Sydney Sweeney and Dakota Johnson, Madame Web takes us on an adventure through the future and the present – and if the trailer is anything to go by, we reckon we can expect action-packed scenes, some good old Spidey-related fun and dare we say it, some serious comic book movie girl power?

After all, Madame Web will be Sony’s first comic book adaptation that features a leading woman. Praise be.

Here's everything we know so far.

What is Madame Web about?

After a near death experience, Dakota's character Cassandra Webb (who names herself Madame Web) starts to have visions of the future, which brings her to a group of interconnected spidey gals, including Sydney's character Spider-Woman (from the comics). But how and why are they connected? That's the question.

Who has been cast in Madame Web?

Alongside Sydney and Dakota we will see Emma Roberts, Isabela Merced, Adam Scott, Celeste O’Connor, Zosia Mamet Tahar Rahim and Mike Epps join the ranks of Marvel's latest epic.

When will Madame Web be released?

It will hit UK cinemas on 16 February 2024.

Fans got very excited at seeing the cast filming Madame Web at the end of last year. As cameras rolled, Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced and Celeste O'Conner were spotted on the streets of New York. Dakota, who takes on the titular role, looked amazing in a red leather coat, jeans and grungy boots. Meanwhile, Sydney, who is playing Julia Carpenter, looked right in character in a button-down blouse, grey pleated skirt, knee-high socks and spectacles.

The leading ladies were seen with their co-stars Isabela and Celeste as they frantically ran around the streets of the Big Apple.

Not seen with them was their co-star Emma Roberts, who was announced as part of the star-studded cast in July. This is a Marvel first for American Horror Story star Emma , who has starred in several teen series and films (who could forget 2008's Wild Child?) – and recently finished filming comedy film Maybe I Do with Hollywood heroes Diane Keaton, Susan Sarandon and Richard Gere.

The film is directed by British director and writer, S.J. Clarkson, who has previously been at the helm of some episodes of Jessica Jones and The Defenders, both of which were part of a Marvel-Netflix series, as well as directing an episode of Succession and Netflix's Anatomy of a Scandal.

Dakota's character, Madame Web, was first introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man in the 1980s, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, she is “a clairvoyant mutant who specialises in predicting the future of spider-themed superheroes, having mentored not only Peter Parker’s alter ego, but also multiple generations of heroes calling themselves Spider-Woman. Traditionally depicted as a blind, paralysed old woman, she is surrounded by a web-like machine necessary to keep her alive, meaning that she stays away from direct conflict and rather sends others on missions.”

Madame Web will be the next instalment in Sony’s growing roster of spidey spin-offs, including last year’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage and the most recent, Spider-Man: No Way Home (which is said to have grossed a seriously impressive $1.74bn globally, the highest in Sony history).

Sweeney has had an impressive streak of roles in some of the most acclaimed shows of recent years. Alongside Euphoria, she has appeared in the dystopian drama The Handmaid's Tale and the satirical anthological series The White Lotus. She will next appear in National Anthem, a film also featuring singer Halsey, Red Rocket star Simon Rex and Sweeney's Euphoria co-star (and Grey's Anatomy actor) Eric Dane.

Her much-talked-about romcom Anyone But You, starring opposite Glen Powell, is also set for release at the end of the year.

Naturally, fans are excited at the prospect of Dakota and Sweeney part of the Marvel family together, with one saying, “The power that dakota johnson and sydney sweeney will hold in madame web."

Another wrote, “Sydney Sweeney joining the marvel universe feels like a personal gift to me” while one user simply wrote: “So happy Sydney Sweeney is getting that bag.”
