If you settled in to watch a festive flick with your family over the Christmas break, opened up Amazon Prime, and pressed play on Saltburn, then you (and your nan) are in our thoughts and prayers.

Emerald Fennell's eat-the-rich romp stars Barry Keoghan as Oliver Quick, a student in his first year of Oxford who is struggling to fit in, until he befriends the charming and aristocratic Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi), who invites Oliver to spend the summer at his family's lavish estate with his equally lavish family (played brilliantly by Richard E. Grant, Rosamund Pike, Alison Oliver and Archie Madekwe). Oliver quickly becomes infatuated with Felix and his world of excess, and naturally, chaos ensues. And by ‘chaos’, we mean some deeply perturbing sexual scenes that are enough to make even the most bawdy of toes curl in discomfort.

The film landed on Prime Video on 22nd December and has caused quite the stir on social media. On TikTok, ‘Saltburn Bathtub Scene Reactions’ has 96.9m views. The context – for those who haven't yet had the viewing pleasure [spoilers incoming] – is that one night during his stay at the eponymous Saltburn estate, Oliver secretly watches Felix masturbate in the bath, then after he gets out, licks his spunky bathwater from the drain. Oliver's other summertime frolics at Saltburn also include eating out Felix's sister Venetia (Alison Olive) while on her period then licking period blood off his fingers, and shagging Felix's freshly-dug grave. Essentially, scenes to be filed under ‘never watch with mum and dad’.
