During one of the many ad breaks at the Globes, the cameras caught Selena Gomez running towards Taylor Swift and Keleigh Sperry's table. Now, unless you were tablemate Willem Dafoe, it's practically impossible to know what the trio might have spoken about at the moment. Still, lip readers seem to have gotten on the case, and the most popular suspicion goes back to Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner.

As noted by both Page Six and Just Jared, most viewers speculated that Selena Gomez went up to the couple's table to ask for a picture with the Wonka actor, who was nominated for Best Actor but lost to Paul Giamatti, and his girlfriend Jenner denied the request. "I asked for a picture with him, and she said no," viewers seem to believe Gomez whispered to her friends during her impromptu table visit. "With Timothée?" many believe Teller replied with shock, judging by a behind-the-scenes video shared by The Hollywood Reporter, before Gomez nodded her head in confirmation.

Speculation about the potential drama has been rampant on social media, so much so that PopCrave falsely reported that Gomez had shut down rumours about the interaction. "I did not say sh*t, I'm sick of y'all, hop off my d*ck & stop overanalyzing every damn move of me without knowing. This is getting ridiculous? And wrong!" the popular aggregated news account claimed the star had said under a supposed social post by CNN, which we now know was false.
As noted by multiple Selena Gomez fan accounts on X, PopCrave's quote comes from an edited meme by user @lukozane, who has admitted they were behind the edit, whose original post has now been deleted.
"Y'ALL I LITERALLY MADE THIS ON PICSART," @lukozane admitted, retweeting PopCrave's viral post. "Y'all I'm SORRY but I thought it'll [sic] be a joke between us Selenators. I had no idea @PopCrave's weird *ss will [sic] use that edited comment & share it," they added.

The whispering interaction is perhaps being put under a microscope due to Jenner and Gomez's history — the stars were also embroiled in alleged beef in 2023, widely known as Browgate, which both parties denied. "This is reaching. No shade towards Selena ever," Jenner shared in a TikTok comment. "You guys are making something out of nothing. This is silly." Gomez replied to Jenner's comment, writing: “Agreed. It's all unnecessary. I'm a fan of Kylie!”
One day after the ceremony, a source denied to People that Gomez was gossiping about Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner to Swift and Sperry. Though some gossip was shared, “she was absolutely not referencing anything about Timothée or Kylie,” the source claimed, adding that Gomez "never even saw or spoke to them."
On January 9, TMZ shared a new video in which they caught up with Timothée Chalamet on the streets of Los Angeles. “Are you and Selena cool?” They asked the actor directly about the drama. “Yeah, of course,” Chalamet replied. “Does Selena and Kylie have any beef? Is that outrageous?” TMZ followed up quickly. “No, no,” Timmy answered definitively. “[They're] all good.”
While we can keep theorising and trying to lip-read for our lives, the truth is we'll truly never know for sure what Gomez said to Swift and Perry — and Gomez seems to be focusing her energy on other things now. After the ceremony, she shared a behind-the-scenes pic from the night where she's smooching boyfriend Benny Blanco, with the caption: "I won."
