Mini dresses

2023 saw a major uptick in mini dresses, with Kourtney Kardashian going short to wed Travis Barker – plus the short Chanel frock that Sofia Richie-Grainge sported for her evening wedding look. Kate Halfpenny, Founder and Designer of Halfpenny London, has seen demand for short dresses soar. “Brides have been wearing short dresses for registry office weddings forever and continue to experiment on their big day or the events surrounding. Pair them with an epic cape or veil for the actual ceremony then rock it alone to dance the night away," she says.

All about accessories

Libby Page, market director at Net-A-Porter reveals, “We have seen a 50% increase in searches for bridal hair accessories this year. We have incorporated hair bows, headbands, gloves, foulards, rosettes, and netted veils into our bridal offering for 2024 for those brides seeking complimentary details. Brands such as Clio Peppiatt, Jennifer Behr and CompletedWorks are a highlight.”

Jess Kaye, co-founder at The OWN Studio, also revealed: “So many brides are loving a maximalist look, especially when it comes to styling their outfit. Boas, long opera gloves, detachable sleeves, neck scarfs – accessories are an amazing way to transform your look across the day, and they’re huge at the moment.”

Mixing fabrics

According to Rosie Williams, Jess' co-founder: “The mixing of fabric textures will be really big in 2024. Chiffon and silk and silk and organza are a hugely popular combination. The mix… adds a softness and femininity to any outfit but also because the mixed texture makes the look feel contemporary and modern – and not overly traditional.”

Statement sleeve

“The desire for a statement sleeve is a trend that's here to stay,” says Kate Halfpenny. “Brides can wear a simple dress and add a gorgeous, detachable puff-ball sleeve for an instant transformation. Remove the veil and sleeves to completely change your look for the evening.” Jess Kaye echoes this. “In 2024 it’s all about the detachable sleeve. They’re are a great way to elevate your outfit and transform the look from day to night with minimal effort.”

Drop waists

This is a wild card, but we’re here for it. Jess says: “[They're] the ultimate cool girl silhouette; drop waists are set to officially take off in 2024. An oft-misunderstood silhouette, brides are often surprised when it suits them but we’re yet to meet someone that doesn’t suit a drop waist. They’re just so incredibly flattering and so cool.”

Structured corsets

We’ve seen corsets as the trending choice of top to wear with jeans, but the Y2K fave is making a move on the bridal category too. Jess Kaye says: “Corsets are back! 2024 brides are loving chic structured silhouettes with corsetry.” And even if brides aren’t keen on a full-on corset, Jess advises, “they’re favouring fabrics with structure, like beautiful brocade or silk mikado. Lots of brides love contrasting structured pieces with more fluid accessories for a super-elevated look.”

Celebrity inspiration

“Celebrity culture has always impacted fashion, but bridal attire has stepped up a notch in recent years, with celebrities celebrating every bridal moment with insta-worthy ensembles,” says Libby Page. “We have made sure we are covered [at Net-A-Porter] – from bridal shower and welcome party to reception and afterparty. We're also catering to all aesthetics, whether that be the lavish Riviera bride courtesy of Sophia Richie Grainge, or the laidback 90’s minimalist bride, led by Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy.”

Transformation

Finally, it's all about the ‘big reveal’. Kate Halfpenny tells GLAMOUR: “We’re finding our statement overskirts are more popular than ever as brides are wanting to have ‘wow’ moments. Brides love choosing a timeless, classic look to walk down the aisle then all of a sudden that beautiful overskirt comes off and it looks like a completely different dress. Or the other way around!”

So, now you know. Which of these wedding dress trends 2024 will you bring into your bridal wardrobe?
